Plantable Seed Paper Indian National Flags are a small step towards reducing the mounds of single-use plastic flags that are sold and thrown away during every national festival in our country. These flags are made from wood-free paper that is handmade using waste cotton scraps and have seeds of plants like Basil, Marigold, Tomatoes, Chillies, and Assorted Wildflowers in them. So after the event, whenever somebody wants to dispose of the flag, rather than throwing it away, they could sow it in the soil (*Burying the flag is in terms with the Flag Code of India, 2002).
How to Plant the Flag: Soak the flag in water for a few hours and place it underneath an inch of loose soil in a pot or in your garden. Coco-peat or manure-rich soil would be ideal. Water it regularly, but just enough to keep it moist. Do not overhydrate. Seeds germinate over a span of 10 to 40 days depending on the soil conditions and seed type.
We have grown up seeing plastic flags being distributed at every corner before important national festivals and then lining the streets as they are unceremoniously strewn away. Let us set a better example for the children around us by giving the national flag its due respect and reducing our consumption of single use plastics with a small step
